2 Corinthians – 6/9/2024

Welcome

Call to Worship (Psalm 130)
L: Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord.
All: Lord, hear my voice.
L: Lord, if you would mark our wrongdoing, who could stand before you?
All: But there is forgiveness with you.
L: I wait for the Lord, my souls waits, and in his word I hope.
All: More than those who wait for the morning.
L: Hope in the Lord.
All: For with the Lord there is steadfast love.

Hymn – Come, Christians, Join to Sing – UMH 158
Come, Christians, join to sing: Alleluia! Amen!
Loud praise to Christ our King: Alleluia! Amen!
Let all, with heart and voice, before his throne rejoice;
praise is his gracious choice. Alleluia! Amen!
Come, lift your hearts on high: Alleluia! Amen!
Let praises fill the sky: Alleluia! Amen!
He is our guide and friend; to us he’ll condescend;
his love shall never end: Alleluia! Amen!
Praise yet the Lord again: Alleluia! Amen!
Life shall not end the strain: Alleluia! Amen!
On heaven’s blissful shore his goodness we’ll adore,
singing for evermore: Alleluia! Amen!

Opening Prayer: O God, just as you sent the Holy Spirit to enkindle the zeal of Christ’s followers waiting in Jerusalem, pour out the power of your Spirit on us. Revive the power of the gospel in our hearts and enable your Church to spread the good news of salvation so that others may hear and welcome it into their own lives. Amen

Scripture Reading – 2 Corinthians 3:1-6
Are we beginning to commend ourselves again! Surely we do not need, as some do, letters of recommendation to you or from you, do we? You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, to be known and read by all; and you show that you are a letter of Christ, prepared by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God. Not that we are competent of ourselves to claim anything as coming from us; our competence is from God, who has made us competent to be ministers of a new covenant, not of letter but of spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
L: For the Word of God in Scripture, for the Word of God within us, for the Word of God among us we say:
All: Thanks be to God!

Hymn – Love Lifted Me – WAS 3101
Love lifted me! Love lifted me!
When nothing else could help, love lifted me.
Love lifted me! Love lifted me!
When nothing else could help, love lifted me!
Souls in danger, look above, Jesus completely saves;
he will lift you by his love out of the angry waves.
He’s the Master of the sea, billows his will obey;
he your Savior wants to be- be saved to day.
Love lifted me! Love lifted me!
When nothing else could help, love lifted me.
Love lifted me! Love lifted me!
When nothing else could help, love lifted me!

Hymn – Bind Us Together – TFWS 2226
Bind us together, Lord, bind us together
with cords that cannot be broken.
Bind us together, Lord, bind us together,
Lord, bind us together in love.
There is only one God, there is only one King.
There is only one body, that is why we sing.
Bind us together, Lord, bind us together
with cords that cannot be broken.
Bind us together, Lord, bind us together,
Lord, bind us together in love.
