Hymn 249 – Turn Your Eyes upon Jesus:
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in his wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of his glory and grace.
Prayer:
Lord, we hear you call out to us: Lift up your hearts! Seek what is above! So you have called us this day O Lord to respond to the call. And here we are, each of us with a life that does not belong to us, but to you, a life that is completely in your hand; each of us with our small and great sins, for which there is forgiveness only in you; each of us with our concerns, which only you can transform into joy. Yet, each of us also has our own, quiet hope, that you may show yourself to be our Almighty, Good, and Gracious God. Grant that in our time of worship we mighty praise you with faithful hearts knowing that your Son has ascended into the heavens to intercede on our behalf, to be our very Advocate, to make something of our nothing.
Our own joys and concerns…
And as you taught us, so now we pray… Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
PROCLAIMING
Acts 1.1-11:
In the first book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus did and taught from the beginning until the day when he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. After his suffering he presented himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. While staying with them, he ordered them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for the promise of the Father. “This,” he said, “is what you have heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, is this the time when you will restore the kingdom to Israel?” He replied, “It is not for you to know the times or the periods that the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” When he had said this, as they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. While he was going and they were gazing up toward heaven, suddenly two men in white robes stood by them. They said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”
Hymn 154 – All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name:
V1. All hail the power of Jesus’ name! Let angels prostrate fall;
Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown him Lord of all.
Bring for the royal diadem, and crown him Lord of all.
V2. Ye chosen seed of Israel’s race, ye ransomed from the fall,
Hail him who saves you by his grace, and crown him Lord of all.
Hail him who saves you by his grace, and crown him Lord of all.
V3. Sinners, whose love can ne’er forget the wormwood and the the gall,
Go spread your trophies at his feet, and crown him Lord of all.
Go spread your trophies at his feet, and crown him Lord of all.
V4. Let every kindred, every tribe on this terrestrial ball,
To him all majesty ascribe, and crown him Lord of all.
To him all majesty ascribe, and crown him Lord of all.
V5. Crown him, ye martyrs of your God, who from his altar call;
Extol the Stem of Jesse’s Rod, and crown him Lord of all.
Extol the Stem of Jesse’s Rod, and crown him Lord of all.
V6. O that with the yonder sacred throng we at his feet may fall!
We’ll join the everlasting song, and crown him Lord of all.
We’ll join the everlasting song, and crown him Lord of all.

RESPONDING
Prayer:
Almighty God, whose blessed Son our Savior Jesus Christ ascended far above all heavens that he might fill all things: Mercifully give us faith to perceive that, according to his promise, he abides with his Church on earth, even to the end of the ages; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

Apostles’ Creed:
I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
