Call to Worship:
L: O, that my one voice could sound like a choir of thousands.
All: Singing the praises of my great Redeemer, the glories of my God.
L: Jesus set us free from prison.
All: our sin is gone and has no power over us.
L: When Jesus speaks, anyone who hears him receives a fresh start, a new life.
All: Broken hearts find joy and healing. The humble and poor in spirit believe.
Hymn – O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing – UMH 57
O for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer’s praise,
the glories of my God and King, the triumphs of his grace.
Jesus! The name that charms our fears, that bids our sorrows cease;
‘tis music in the sinner’s ears, ‘tis life, and health, and peace.
He speaks, and listening to his voice, new life the dead receive;
the mournful, broken hearts rejoice; the humble poor believe.
In Christ, your head, you then shall know, shall feel your sins
forgiven; anticipate your heaven below, and own that love is heaven.
Prayer: Let us pray together Lord, open our hearts and minds by the power of your Holy Spirit, that, as the Scriptures are read and your Word proclaimed, we may hear with joy what you say to us today. Amen.
Scripture Reading – Deuteronomy 6:4-5
“Hear, O Israel: The LORD is our God, the LORD alone. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
Scripture Reading – John 14:1-7
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
L: The Word of God in scripture; for the Word of God within us and for the Word of God among us we say:
All: Thanks be to God.
