Greeting the Lord
Call to Worship:
L: The Lord is the Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom.
All: Since we have such a hope, we are able to act with great boldness.
L: With unveiled faces, we see the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror.
All: We are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another.
Song: Woke Up This Morning TFWS 2082
J. Jefferson Cleveland and Verolga Nix CCLI #1760719
Oh, I woke up this morning with my mind and it was stayed on Jesus.
Woke up this morning with my mind and it was stayed on Jesus.
Woke up this morning with my mind and it was stayed on Jesus.
Hallelu, hallelu, hallelu, hallelujah.
Oh, you can’t hate your neighbor in your mind if you keep it stayed on Jesus.
You can’t hate your neighbor in your mind if you keep it stayed on Jesus.
You can’t hate your neighbor in your mind if you keep it stayed on Jesus.
Hallelu, hallelu, hallelu, hallelujah.
Makes you love everybody with your mind, when you keep it stayed on Jesus.
Makes you love everybody with your mind, when you keep it stayed on Jesus.
Makes you love everybody with your mind, when you keep it stayed on Jesus.
Hallelu, hallelu, hallelu, hallelujah.
Prayer:
(All) O Breath of Love, come, breathe within us, renewing thought and will and heart. Come, love of Christ, afresh to win us, revive your church in every part, through Jesus Chris, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
Listening for the Lord
Scripture Luke 9:28-36
28 Now about eight days after these sayings Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. 29 And while he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became dazzling white. 30 Suddenly they saw two men, Moses and Elijah, talking to him. 31 They appeared in glory and were speaking of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. 32 Now Peter and his companions were weighed down with sleep; but since they had stayed awake, they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. 33 Just as they were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah” —not knowing what he said. 34 While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were terrified as they entered the cloud. 35 Then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!” 36 When the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and in those days told no one any of the things they had seen.
L: The word of God for the people of God.
All: Thanks be to God.
Song: Breathe on Me, Breath of God UMH 420
Edwin Hatch and Robert Jackson CCLI 399481
Breathe on me Breath of God; fill me with life anew,
that I may love what thou dost love and do what thou wouldst do.
Breathe on me Breath of God, until my heart is pure
until with thee I will one will, to do and to endure.
Breathe on me, Breath of God, till I am wholly thine,
till all this earthly part of me glows with thy fire divine.
Sermon – Pastor Gayle
Prayer of Confession:
Lord Jesus Christ, you are the way of peace. Come into the brokenness of our lives and our land with your healing love. Help us to be willing to bow before you in true repentance, and to bow to one another in real forgiveness. By the fire of your Holy Spirit, melt our hard hearts and consume the pride and prejudice which separate us. Fill us, O Lord, with your perfect love, which casts out our fear, and bind us together in that unity which you share with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Song: Shine Jesus Shine TFWS 2173
Graham Kendrick CCLI#30426
Refrain: Shine, Jesus, shine, fill this land with the Father’s glory,
flow, river, flow, flood the nations with grace and mercy,
send for your word, Lord, and let there be light.
Lord, the light of your love is shining in the midst of the darkness shining,
Jesus, Light of the World, shine upon us, set us free by the truth you now bring us.
Shine on me, shine on me.
Refrain
Lord, I come to your awesome presence from the shadows into your radiance;
by the blood I may enter your brightness, search me, try me, consume all my darkness.
Shine on me, shine on me.
Refrain
As we gaze on your kingly brightness, so our faces display your likeness;
ever changing from glory to glory, mirrored here may our lives tell your story.
Shine on me, shine on me.

A. On Monday 2/21 the Cokesbury Healthy Church Team reviewed our current plans for indoor worship services.
B. Through prayer and an analysis of the latest data regarding the coronavirus it was determined that we should continue with our current Mitigation Activities Plan.
C. This plan includes the proper use of masks, social distancing, self screening, and contact tracing attendance registration.
D. Some of the factors that influenced this decision were: the age of our congregation, the high rate of infection in Virginia, and in the United States.
E. While the COVID infection rate and associated deaths are decreasing, we would like for this trend to continue for a sustained period before we update our present Plan.
F. Finally, the U.S. Center for Disease Control and the VA Department of Health continue to recommend the procedures we are implementing for indoor activities.
G. We are all anxious to return to normal, pre-pandemic activities, but we determined that we cannot now do so safely.
H. The Team is scheduled to meet again on Monday, March 7th, to review conditions and provide the next update to the congregation.
