Scripture Reading – Mark 3:31-35
Then his mother and his brothers came, and standing outside they sent to him and called him. A crowd was sitting around him, and they said to him, “Your mother and brothers and sisters are outside asking for you.” And he replied, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” And looking at those who sat around him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.”
L: The Word of God in scripture; for the Word of God within us and for the Word of God among us we say:
All: Thanks be to God.

Hymn – Leaning on the Everlasting Arms – UMH 133
What a fellowship, what a joy divine,
leaning on the everlasting arms;
what a blessedness, what a peace is mine,
leaning on the everlasting arms.
Refrain
Leaning, leaning, safe and secure from all alarms;
leaning, leaning, leaning on the everlasting arms.

O how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way,
leaning on the everlasting arms;
O how bright the path grows from day to day,
leaning on the everlasting arms.
Refrain
What have I to dread, what have I to fear,
leaning on the everlasting arms?
I have blessed peace with my Lord so near,
leaning on the everlasting arms.
Refrain

Prayers of the People

Prayer of Confession – UMH 8
Merciful God, we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart. We have not done your will, we have broken your law of love by not loving our neighbors and judging others more harshly than we judge ourselves. We have rejected your love for us and not put you as ruler of our life. Forgive us, we pray. Free us for joyful obedience to you, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
