Call to Worship
L: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
L: For the Lord is our rock and our deliverer
All: The One in whom we take refuge.
L: Give your praise to the Lord
All: From the rising of the sun to its setting, may the Lord be praised.
L: There is none like our God in the heavens who lifts the poor from the dust, seating them with the mighty, who stoops to raise the weak and low.
All: Praise to the name of the Lord!
L: Who restores our sight and opens our ears to hear. Who renews our spirits and heals our hearts.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!

Song: Blessed Be the Name UMH 63

Blessed Assurance UMH 369 Fanny Crosby and Phoebe Palmer Knapp CCLI#22324
Blessed Assurance, Jesus is mine! I in my Savior am happy and blest,
watching and waiting, looking above,
filled with his goodness, lost in his love.
This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long;
this is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long.

I love you, Lord TFWS 2068
Laurie Klein CCLI# 25266
I love you, Lord, and I lift my voice to worship you, O my soul rejoice.
Take joy, my King, in what you hear, may it be a sweet, sweet sound in your ear.

Prayer: (All) Come Holy Spirit, descend upon us and fill our hearts with your grace. Enable us to feel your presence and movement among and within us this day. Infuse the words of scripture and the mind, spirit and words of the preacher with your transforming power. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Listening for the Lord

Scripture: Mark 7:24-30
From there he set out and went away to the region of Tyre. He entered a house and did not want anyone to know he was there. Yet he could not escape notice,  but a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit immediately heard about him, and she came and bowed down at his feet.  Now the woman was a Gentile, of Syrophoenician origin. She begged him to cast the demon out of her daughter.  He said to her, “Let the children be fed first, for it is not fair to take the children’s food and throw it to the dogs.”  But she answered him, “Sir, even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”  Then he said to her, “For saying that, you may go—the demon has left your daughter.”  So she went home, found the child lying on the bed, and the demon gone.
L: The word of God for the people of God.
All: Thanks be to God.

Song: All I Need is You TFWS 2080
Dan Adler CCLI# 488384
All I need is you, Jesus, all I need is you.
You are the source of all I need. All I need is you.
All I want is you, Jesus, all I want is you.
You are the source of all I need. All I want is you.
My only hope is you, Lord, my only hope is you.
You are the source of all I need. My only hope is you.

Responding to the Lord through our offering, prayer, witness and service

Song: We Shall Overcome UMH 533
Shelton Love CCLI 7172302
We shall overcome, we shall overcome, we shall overcome some day!
Oh, deep in my heart I do believe we shall overcome some day!
We’ll walk hand in hand, we’ll walk hand in hand, we’ll walk hand in hand some day!
Oh, deep in my heart I do believe we shall overcome some day!
We shall all be free, we shall all be free, we shall all be free some day!
Oh, deep in my heart I do believe we shall overcome some day!
We shall live in peace, we shall live in peace, we shall live in peace some day!
Oh, deep in my heart I do believe we shall overcome some day!
The Lord will see us through, the Lord will see us through, the Lord will see us through some day!
Oh, deep in my heart I do believe we shall overcome some day!
African American Spiritual adapted by William Farley Smith

Pastoral Prayer

Song: Stand By Me UMH 512
Charles Albert Tindley CCLI# 132300
When the storms of life are raging, stand by me;
when the storms of life are raging, stand by me.
When the world is tossing me, like a ship upon the sea,
thou who rulest wind and water, stand by me.
In the midst of tribulation, stand by me;
in the midst of tribulation, stand by me.
When the host of hell assail, and my strength begins to fail,
thou who never lost a battle, stand by me.
In the midst of faults and failures, stand by me;
in the midst of faults and failures, stand by me.
When I’ve done the best I can and my friends misunderstand,
thou who knowest all about me, stand by me.
