Hymn – O Wondrous Sight! O Vision Fair (vs. 1,3,4,5) – UMH 258
O wondrous sight! O vision fair
of glory that the church shall share,
which Christ upon the mountain shows,
where brighter than the sun he glows!
The law and prophets there have place,
two chosen witnesses of grace;
the Father’s voice from out the cloud
proclaims his only Son a loud.
With shining face and bright array
Christ deigns to manifest that day
what glory shall be theirs above
who joy in God with perfect love
And faithful hearts are raised on high
by this great vision’s mystery;
for which in joyful strains we raise
the voice of prayer, the hymn of praise.

Opening Prayer:
Liturgist: Christ whose glory fills the skies, the true, the only light. Dayspring from on high, be near. Daystar, in my heart appear.
All: Visit then this soul of mine; pierce the gloom of sin and grief; fill me with your radiancy divine, scatter all my unbelief; more and more thyself display, shining to the perfect day.
(Charles Wesley)

Scripture Reading – Mark 9:2-8
Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them,  and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no one on earth could bleach them.  And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, who were talking with Jesus.  Then Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”  He did not know what to say, for they were terrified. Then a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud there came a voice, “This is my Son, the Beloved; listen to him!” Suddenly when they looked around, they saw no one with them any more, but only Jesus.
L: The Word of God in scripture; for the Word of God within us and for the Word of God among us we say:
All: Thanks be to God.

Give thanks with a grateful heart, give thanks to the Holy One,
give thanks because he’s given Jesus Christ his Son.
And now let the weak say, “I am strong”, let the poor say,
“I am rich because of what the Lord has done for us.”
