Welcome
Call to Worship:
P: Here in this place new light is streaming.
All: Now is the darkness vanished away.
P: See in this space our fears and our dreamings.
All: Brought here to you in the light of this day.
P: Gather us in the lost and forsaken, gather us in the blind and the lame.
All: Call to us now, and we shall awaken, we shall arise at the sound of our name.
Song – Great Is Thy Faithfulness – UMH 140
Great is they faithfulness, O God my Father;
there is no shadow of turning with thee;
thou changest not, thy compassions they fail not;
as thou hast been, thou forever wilt be.
Refrain:
Great is the faithfulness! Great is they faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
all I have needed thy hand hath provided;
great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
sun, moon, and stars in their courses above
join with all nature in manifold witness
to thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love.
Refrain
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
Refrain
Prayer:
Holy and Wise God, your Son, Jesus, our brother has called us to be salt and light in the world. Teach us what it means to be salt and light and equip us to be salt and light by the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Children’s Message
Scripture Reading – Matthew 5:1-16
L: Blessed are the poor in spirit,
All: for theirs is the kingdom of God
L: Blessed are those who mourn.
All: For they will be comforted.
L: Blessed are the meek,
All: For they will inherit the earth.
L: Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
All: for they will be filled.
L: Blessed are the merciful,
All: For they will receive mercy
L: Blessed are the pure in heart,
All: For they will see God.
L: Blessed are the peacemakers,
All: for they will be called children of God.
L: Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,
All: For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
L: You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let our light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.
L: For the Word of God in scripture; for the Word of God within us and for the Word of God among us we say:
All: Thanks be to God.
Message – Be Salt
Song – Blest Are They – TFWS 2155
Blest are they, the poor in spirit; theirs is the kingdom of God.
Blest are they, full of sorrow; they shall be consoled.
Refrain:
Rejoice and be glad! Blessed are you, holy are you.
Rejoice and be glad! Yours is the kingdom of God!
Blest are they, the lowly ones; they shall inherit the earth.
Blest are they who hunger and thirst; they shall have their fill.
Refrain
Blest are they who show mercy; mercy shall be theirs.
Blest are they, the pure of heart; they shall see God!
Refrain
Blest are they who seek peace; they are the children of God.
Blest are they who suffer in faith, the glory of God is theirs.
Refrain
Blest are you who suffer hate, all because of me.
Rejoice and be glad, yours is the kingdom. Shine for us all to see.

Sharing our joys and concerns
Pastoral Prayer
Prayer of Confession – UMH 8
Merciful God, we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart. We have failed to be an obedient church. We have not done your will, we have broken your law, we have rebelled against your love, we have not loved our neighbors, and we have not heard the cry of the needy. Forgive us, we pray. Free us for joyful obedience, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
Passing the Peace
The Great Thanksgiving – UMH 9
P: The Lord be with you
All: And also with you
P: Lift up your hearts.
All: We lift them up to the Lord.
P: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God
All: It is right to give our thanks and praise.
P: And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven we praise your name and join their unending hymn:
All: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
P: And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ, we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving as a holy and living sacrifice, in union with Christ’s offering for us as we proclaim the mystery of faith.
All: Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.
The Lord’s Prayer – UMH 895
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory. Amen
Sharing the Bread and Cup: All are invited to receive the sacrament of the body and blood of Christ.
Communion Hymn – Let Us Break Bread Together – UMH 618
Let us break bread together on our knees,
let us break bread together on our knees.
Refrain
When I fall on my knees with my face to the rising sun,
O Lord, have mercy on me.
Let us drink wine together on our knees,
let us drink wine together on our knees.
Refrain
Let us praise God together on our knees,
let us praise God together on our knees.
Refrain
