Call to Worship
L: The Law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul and making wise the simple.
All: God’s commandments enlighten the eyes and bring joy to the heart.
L: More to be desired than gold, even much fine gold.
All: Sweeter than honey from the honeycomb.

Song – Great Is Thy Faithfulness – UMH 140
Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father; there is no shadow of turning with thee;
thou changest not, thy compassions, they fail not; as thou hast been, thou forever wilt be.
Refrain:
Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see;
all I have needed thy hand hath provided; great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto to me!

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest, sun, moon, and stars in their courses above
join with all nature in manifold witness to thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love.
Refrain
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth, thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, blessings all mine, with ten thousand besides!
Refrain

Prayer:
(All) Extravagant God, you have promised treasure in heaven that outweighs any we could envision or imagine on earth. Help us to be grateful for the amazing gifts you have already given to us. We pray these things in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Scripture Reading – Matthew 6:19-24
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal, but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. “The eye is the lamp of the body. So if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If, then, the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! “No one can serve two masters, for a slave will either hate the one and love the other or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.
L: For the Word of God in scripture; for the Word of God within us and for the Word of God among us we say:
All: Thanks be to God.

Our Offering to God
Doxology – Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow – UMH 95
Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise him all creatures here below.
Praise him above the heavenly hosts. Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen

Offering Prayer:
Almighty God, giver of every good and perfect gift, teach us to render to you all that we have and all that we are, that we may praise you, not with our lips only, but with our whole lives, turning the duties, the sorrows, and the joys of all our days into a living sacrifice to you; through our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Message Pastor Gayle

Prayer of Confession:
Almighty God, we confess that we are often swept up in the tide of our generation. We have failed in our calling to be your holy people, a people set apart for your divine purpose. We live more in apathy born of fatalism than in passion born of hope. We are moved more by private ambition than by social justice. We dream more of privilege and benefits than of service and sacrifice. We try to speak in your name without relinquishing our glories, without nourishing our souls, without relying wholly on your grace. Forgive us, revive us, and reshape us in your image. Amen.

Cokesbury UMC 8:59 Prayer
Lord, we trust you to help us to journey beyond the familiar and into the unknown. Give us faith to leave old ways and break fresh ground with you. We believe you will make a way for us and provide for us if only we trust you and obey. Focus our minds and our hearts upon you. Strengthen us with your blessing and appoint us to the task at hand. Teach us to live with eternity in view. Tune our spirits to the music of heaven. Amen.
