Matthew 28 – 4/16/2023

Call to Worship
L: The disciples were assembled behind closed doors when suddenly, you entered, O Jesus our almighty God. You stood in their midst and gave them your peace. You breathed the Holy Spirit on them. You commanded them to wait in Jerusalem until they would be clothed with power from on high.
All: And so we cry to you: Glory to you, our resurrection, our light and our peace!
L: Eight days after your resurrection, O Lord, you appeared to your disciples in the upper room. You greeted them: Peace be with you! You showed your hands and feet to the doubting disciple. Then in faith he cried to you:
All: Glory to you, my Lord and my God!

Song – In the Garden – UMH 314
I come to the garden alone, while the dew is still on the roses
and the voice I hear falling on my ear, the Son of God discloses.
Refrain:
And he walks with me and he talks with me
and he tells me I am his own;
and the joy we share as we tarry there,
none other has ever known.

He speaks and the sound of his voice is so sweet the birds hush their
singing, and the melody that he gave to me within my heart is ringing.
Refrain
I’d stay in the garden with him though the night around me be falling,
but he bids me go; thru the voice of woe his voice to me is calling.
Refrain

Prayer:
Almighty God, through your only Son you overcame death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life. Grant that we who celebrate our Lord’s resurrection, by the renewing of your Spirit, arise from the death of sin to the life of righteousness; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Our Offering to God
Anthem – Choir
Doxology – Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow Offering

Prayer:
For all that we have received, we give thanks, recognizing that all good gifts come from you. Humbly, we offer back to you, O Lord, only a small portion, asking that you make it acceptable and useful for the building of your kingdom here on earth. Amen.

Scripture Reading – Matthew 28:1-10
After the Sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord, descending from heaven, came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning and his clothing white as snow. For fear of him the guards shook and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has been raised, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has been raised from the dead, and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him.’ This is my message for you.” So they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came to him, took hold of his feet, and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers and sisters to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”
L: For the Word of God in scripture; for the Word of God within us and for the Word of God among us we say:
All: Thanks be to God.

The Lord’s Prayer – UMH 895
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory. Amen

Following our exalted Head. Alleluia!
Made like him, like him we rise, Alleluia!
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia!
Hail the Lord of earth and heaven, Alleluia!
Praise to thee by both be given, Alleluia!
Thee we greet triumphant now, Alleluia!
Hail the Resurrection, thou, Alleluia!
King of glory, soul of bliss, Alleluia!
Everlasting life is this, Alleluia!
Thee to know, thy power to prove, Alleluia!
Thus to sing, and thus to love. Alleluia!

Benediction – As Almighty God has given us the joy of resurrection and the hope of eternal life, may we joyfully take up our life in God’s
service, bringing hope and peace to others in Jesus’ name.
