Ezekiel 17 – 6/16/2024

Welcome
Call to Worship – Psalm 92
L: It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name, O Most High
All: We declare your steadfast love in the morning and your faithfulness by night.
L: The righteous flourish because they are planted in the house of the Lord. In old age they still produce fruit showing that the Lord is upright.
All: The Lord is my rock and there is no unrighteousness in God.

Hymn – This Is My Father’s World – UMH 144
This is my Father’s world, and to my listening ears
all nature sings, and round me rings the music of the spheres.
This is my Father’s world: I rest me in the thought
of rocks and trees, of skies and seas; his hand the wonders wrought.
This is my Father’s world, the birds their carols raise,
the morning light, the lily white, declare their maker’s praise.
This is my Father’s world: he shines in all that’s fair;
in the rustling grass I hear him pass; he speaks to me everywhere.
This is my Father’s world. O let me ne’er forget
that though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the ruler yet.
This is my Father’s world: why should my heart be sad?
The Lord is King; let the heaven’s ring!
God reigns; let the earth be glad!

Opening Prayer – Living God, breathe your Spirit upon us and surround us with your love. Open our hearts and minds to hear the sacred words inspired by you, to take in your Word, and live them in our lives. Amen.

Scripture Reading – Ezekiel 17:22-24
Thus says the Lord God: I myself will take a sprig from the lofty top of a cedar; I will set it out. I will break off a tender one from the topmost of its young twigs; I myself will plant it on a high and lofty mountain. On the mountain height of Israel I will plant it, in order that it may produce boughs and bear fruit, and become a noble cedar. Under it every kind of bird will live; in the shade of its branches will
nest winged creatures of every kind. All the trees of the field shall know that I am the Lord. I bring low the high tree, I make high the low tree; I dry up the green tree and make the dry tree flourish. I the Lord have spoken; I will accomplish it.
L: For the Word of God in Scripture, for the Word of God within us, for the Word of God among us we say:
All: Thanks be to God!

Anthem – Choir

Message – Pastor Gayle

Prayer of Confession – Merciful God, we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart. We have failed to be an obedient church. We have not done your will, we have broken your law, we have rebelled against your love, we have not loved our neighbors, and we have not heard the cry of the needy. Forgive us, we pray. Free us for joyful obedience, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Pastor: In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!
Congregation: In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.
All: Glory to God. Amen.

Hymn – Lord, You Have Come to the Lakeshore – UMH 344
Lord, you have come to the lakeshore
looking neither for wealthy nor wise ones;
you only asked me to follow humbly.
Refrain
O Lord, with your eyes you have searched me,
and while smiling have spoken my name;
now my boat’s left on the shoreline behind me;
by your side I will seek other seas.

You know so well my possessions;
my boat carries no gold and no weapons;
you will find there my nets and labor.
Refrain
You need my hands, full of caring
through my labors to give others rest,
and constant love that keeps on loving.
Refrain
You, who have fished other oceans,
ever longed for by souls who are waiting,
my loving friend, as thus you call me.

The Great Thanksgiving – UMH 13
Pastor: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
Pastor: Lift up your hearts.
People: We lift them up to the Lord.
Pastor: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People: It is right to give our thanks and praise.
Pastor: …We praise your name and join their unending hymn:
People: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
Pastor: …As we proclaim the mystery of faith
People: Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.

The Lord’s Prayer – UMH 895
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Prayer of Thanksgiving – Eternal God, we give you thanks for this holy mystery in which you have given yourself to us. Grant that we may go into the world in the strength of your Spirit, to give ourselves for others, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Hymn – Bind Us Together – TFWS 2226
Bind us together, Lord, bind us together
with cords that cannot be broken.
Bind us together, Lord, bind us together,
Lord, bind us together in love.
There is only one God, there is only one King.
There is only one body, that is why we sing.
Bind us together, Lord, bind us together
with cords that cannot be broken.
Bind us together, Lord, bind us together,
Lord, bind us together in love.
