Cokesbury Digest

The Cokesbury Healthy Church Team met on Monday, December November 6th, to review the plans for upcoming church worship services. The pandemic is continuing and nationwide we are seeing an uptick in cases, the advance of flu season, and the rise of the Omicron variant which appears to be more contagious than earlier variants. It was determined we will continue in-person sanctuary worship and be extra vigilant about ensuring the mitigation plan is followed. The Team will continue to monitor and review current conditions and provide updates to the congregation. Our next meeting is scheduled for January 10th.

To be successful and sustainable, Sanctuary Worship requires adherence to mitigation guidelines, which are posted at the church entrance. Chief among these requirements is that masks must be properly worn at all times while inside the church building, we must follow the practice of social distancing for non-household members, self-screening for symptoms and wellness, and we will need to register attendance to satisfy the requirement of contact tracing should a case of covid-19 arise. Other basic guidelines required by the CDC, FDA, or the church may be implemented. Please note that masks will be made available by the church as needed.

Sunday worship continues to stream live on Facebook, and be posted on YouTube, so if you are unable to follow these requirements you are invited to continue enjoying streaming worship.

Ushers needed for Sunday worship. Please contact Gordon Freeman to volunteer,

Liturgists Needed: One definition of the word liturgy is a religious service offered to God by the people. This offering can include Sunday worship, baptism, and communion. It can be understood as a solemn drama involving God and his worshippers, consisting of an exchange of prayers, praise, and graces. It is a sacred time rendered in a sacred space.
While there are many definitions of the word liturgy, one common component to the many definitions is the following statement: Liturgy is part of a religious service offered to God by the people. The offering to God by the people is the critical phrase in this statement.
At Cokesbury, the liturgy comes to fruition when members of the congregation offer prayers and Scripture reading on Sunday morning. Thanks to all of you who have participated in this religious service over the past few months. I believe that fulfillment of this offering to God would be exemplified if more members of the congregation volunteered to participate in this sacred offering.
With that said, let me encourage all of you to take part in this sacred ceremony. I pledge to you that God pays no attention to the pronunciation of names or the hesitancy of your speech. God will focus on the offering you make to him by your participation.
Please contact Leo Bonner to volunteer.
