Prayer:
To you, O Lord, we lift up our souls and in you, we put our trust. Make us to know your ways, O Lord and teach us your paths. Lead us in your truth for you are the God of our salvation. Help us to set aside distractions so that we might hear you speaking to us today. Dismantle the walls that keep us from seeing the path you have set before us. Amen.

Scripture – Nehemiah 1:1-11:
1 The words of Nehemiah son of Hacaliah. In the month of Chislev, in the twentieth year, while I was in Susa the capital,  2  one of my brothers, Hanani, came with certain men from Judah; and I asked them about the Jews that survived, those who had escaped the captivity, and about Jerusalem.  3  They replied, “The survivors there in the province who escaped captivity are in great trouble and shame; the wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been destroyed by fire.” 4  When I heard these words I sat down and wept, and mourned for days, fasting and praying before the God of heaven.  5  I said, “O Lord God of heaven, the great and awesome God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments;  6  let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer of your servant that I now pray before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel, confessing the sins of the people of Israel, which we have sinned against you. Both I and my family have sinned.  7  We have offended you deeply, failing to keep the commandments, the statutes, and the ordinances that you commanded your servant Moses.  8  Remember the word that you commanded your servant Moses, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the peoples;  9  but if you return to me and keep my commandments and do them, though your outcasts are under the farthest skies, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place at which I have chosen to establish my name.’  10  They are your servants and your people, whom you redeemed by your great power and your strong hand.  11  O Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of your servant, and to the prayer of your servants who delight in revering your name. Give success to your servant today, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man!” At the time, I was cupbearer to the king.
L: The word of God for the people of God.
All: Thanks be to God!

Sermon – Rev. Gayle Porias

Song:
Open the Eyes of My Heart
Open the eyes of my heart, Lord, open the eyes of my heart; I want to see you, I want to see you.
Open the eyes of my heart, Lord, open the eyes of my heart; I want to see you, I want to see you.
To see you high and lifted up, shining in the light of your glory.
Pour out your power and love as we sing, holy, holy, holy.
To see you high and lifted up, shining in the light of your glory.
Pour out your power and love as we sing, holy, holy, holy.
Holy, holy, holy. Holy, holy, holy. Holy, holy, holy. I want to see you.

Offering and signs of reconciliation and love: Our tithes, time, talent, prayer and witness

Song – Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me:
Jesus, Savior, pilot me, over life’s tempestuous seas. Unknown waves before me roll, hiding rock and
treacherous shoal. Chart and compass came from free; Jesus, Savior, pilot me.
As a mother stills her child, thou canst hush the ocean wild; boisterous waves obey thy will, when thou sayest
to them, “Be still!” Wondrous sovereign of the sea, Jesus, Savior, pilot me.
Edward Hopper and John E. Gould CCLI# 3734289

Prayer of dedication:
O God, most merciful and gracious, of whose bounty we have all received, accept this offering of your people. Remember in your love those who have brought it and those for whom it is given, and so follow it with your blessing that it may promote peace and goodwill among all peoples, and advance the kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen. (UMC Book of Worship)

Prayer of Intercession:
The Lord’s Prayer: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Benediction:
May you trust the Lord to help you journey beyond the familiar and into the unknown. May the love of Jesus Christ be stronger than the storm within us and around us. May the Holy Spirit empower us with enough faith to leave old ways and break fresh ground.

Song – Lead Me, Guide Me:
Lead me, guide me, along the way. For if you lead me, I cannot stray.
Lord, let me walk each day with you. Lead me, O Lord, lead me.
